Assalamualaikum, hello we meet again. Today, lets look at the
Scotland national Haggis. The haggis are very famous
among Scottish people. Haggis is actualy a type of pudding
which containing sheep’s heart, lung liver and mixed with
the other ingredient such as onion, salt and other.
History
The haggis history start on 9 century. One day the Viking was came
to the Scotland. They just only bring the scarps of meat
and cereal which they wrap it in cloth. They think that the foods
are not enough for the to eat for the next day. So, they decided
to hunt the animal in the forest.
think that, he food can stay longer if they wrap
it in the cloth same like the Viking do. But they change the
cloth to sheep’s stomach. They put the meat scarps meat
and cereal in a sheep’s stomach.
On the 12 century, came one man from French.
He saw one meat cook the haggis for his dinner and
the French man decided want to ask the man, what the name
of food that he was cooking. The man say that it just a meat
that put in animal stomach. The French say to the man is it
Hachis, which in French mean minced meat and
the man just agree it. That is where the haggis got their name.
Nowadays, Scottish people eat it every day and they also
serve haggis during the thanksgiving day. Scottish believe
that the haggis give energy to them because it made from the meat.
How to cook it ?
Here some the recipe to make the haggis. Firstly, you
need the main ingredient which is sheep’s stomach,
1sheep’s pluck, heart, lungs and liver. Next, take 3 onion,
250g beef suet, 150g oatmeal, salt and black pepper
and 150mls of stock.
The first step you need to do is, you need to clean the
sheep’s stomach and leave it for a night.
Mince the pluck, heart, liver and lung and
boil it into a pot until it soft. After that cut the onions
to a dice. Next, mix the onion with the sheep’s
pluck, heart, liver and lung together.
You need to add some salt, a bit of pepper.
After finish it, put all the ingredient into the sheep’s
stomach and tie it with rope. Boil it in a pot and after
it turn to a brown colour, the haggis are ready to serve.
Usually, the Scottish people serve the haggis with
the potatoes, but it up to you what you want to eat with.
Conclusion
The Scottish people say that the haggis have a very good
texture and it tasted very delicious especially when you eat
it immediately after it cooked. They also haggis have a lot
of protein and calories because it contains the sheep’s organ.
Last but not least, in my opinion i think the haggis
are not really good food to eat. This is because the
ingredient that contains in haggis is a sheep’s organ
and it is not good to our brain.It also look very cruel
because we eat all the part in the sheep’s body
include it lung and it heart. Furthermore, even I don’t
want to eat it, but I should respect it as a Scottish
people food because everyone have their own tasted.
